With more multinational corporations entering the Chinese market, however, competition between large companies will become more intense. How do you view this competition? What will this competition bring your company and the Chinese paint market?

    Wu Xiaodong: BASF faces competition not only in China but also all over the world. Healthy competition can promote development for all companies. We see these challenges also as opportunities for us to maintain a competitive edge and be more vigilant of the market situation. Competition is divided into two categories. One of them is the competition of new products. We bring high-tech products to China and participate in the competition of the Chinese market, which will be very useful in improving the Chinese production technologies. Ultimately, the industry and consumers of the Chinese paint market will benefit from this competition. The other category is the competition to satisfy the requirements of Chinese consumers. A company that understands the Chinese market more thoroughly and offers products with higher technology content will better meet local market demands. BASF is committed to develop together with domestic partners and the supply chain.

   慧聪网：巴斯夫作为一个老牌的化工巨头，我相信贵公司在不断发展壮大自身的同时，不会忘了回馈社会的。那巴斯夫在对中国社会又有那些回馈呢？08年像这样的回馈行动又有哪些？在这里能否能透露一点，让大家高兴一下！

    吴晓冬：我们有专门的资源来做这方面的工作，我们大中华区总裁关志华一直在呼吁，从责任方面看，带动中小企业是我们作为行业领先者义不容辞的责任。巴斯夫的业务活动与社会有着综合而互惠互利的关系，巴斯夫所作的每一件事情都影响着社会。我们在行业广泛传播社会理念，带动大家一起来做，付出了很多努力。中国的发展非常迅速，我们要考虑资源，要有长远的目标，我们做的每件事都影响到社会。巴斯夫一直在履行社会责任。因此，在巴斯夫，履行企业公民的社会责任已提升成为整个公司业务发展的重要组成部分，一如在世界其他国家一样，巴斯夫在中国勇于承担各种社会责任。

    我们在中国的社会活动如下：

    •巴斯夫“小小化学家”－目的是为适龄儿童普及化学知识，让儿童从小就有做化学的体验，激发孩子对化学的兴趣。

    •中德研发基金－1997年5月，中德研究和发展基金成立，主要通过资助和奖学金的方式支持巴斯夫与中国的高等学校及中国社会科学院的相关科研院所之间的科研合作。

    •与政府合作支持清洁能源研究－2004年6月，巴斯夫和国家环境保护总局下属的中国环境科学研究院共同在北京建立一个奔驰M111型号的发动机，该试验室将采用国际认可的试验操作程序，帮助制定、监督相关的环保标准；他对燃料油的清净性进行监测评估，从而提高燃油质量，减少排放。最终的目的为国内创造更清洁的环境。

    •与社区共同发展－巴斯夫所有的工厂都会和当地政府、社区、医院、学校、消防队、以及邻近工厂对话、沟通、合作，制定应急响应计划，并就该计划进行讨论。巴斯夫强调的不仅仅是避免危险，还提倡邻近企业之间的互助。

    •员工志愿者－巴斯夫上海的员工组成志愿队，利用业余时间到黄浦区残联组织的贫困家庭子女业余辅导，教授英语，受到了社区的热烈欢迎；给广西、云南偏远山区的孩子，捐助学费。

    由此可见，巴斯夫在中国不仅在积极的开发业务同时也活跃在社会活动中。我们将继续回馈社会，我们要充满责任感。
